happy holidays

sorry for the inactivity... I truly am. It has just been a very busy time of year and I am preparing for a big new year. :D

The short story for this month is on its way and will follow in the lesson not learned series. Chapters are coming and I am doing my best. Also new stuff on religion nerd will be coming soon.

More importantly though thank you everyone for your support this year and beyond. I hope you enjoy this time of year and get to spend it with loved ones and maybe even get to relax a little bit....

writing update

This week I am really doing my best to get jumped and my december short story finished and up. Jumped a few chapters should be up soon... and I know I ask to be patient, but please continue to be and you will be rewarded.

Unfortunately for me though this week I am scheduled for 48 hours this week and 43 next week.... so I will do my best to get them finished and check back soon to read some chapters and a new story.

My Best to Brubeck and his family

Facebook seems to be how I find about depressing news now in days. When my grandfather was in the hospital I found out through pictures posted and today I found out about the passing of the great Brubeck through a simple post by my friend Nico.

How I discovered the news though is not the purpose of this post though and instead I want to focus on the things that matter and want to give credit and a little time to thank Mr. Brubeck for everything he has done. After how much his music has touched and influenced me and the rest of the world it is the least I can do.

As far as a musician I have always loved and respected Brubeck above many others. Many do not know this about me, but Brubeck was one of my favorite musicians growing up and is still to this day. The first time I truly felt like I had a good solo was at a Sunny Emmory's drum camp and it was on take the A-train, the solo and fours were based off of Brubeck and Joe's solo and playing on this song. In this respect I owe a lot to Dave and his wonderful group. Last year we lost Joe and are still feeling the pain of that today and now to lose Dave reminds me how much I still need to listen, learn, and grow.

Dave's passing though is another painful reminder of our own mortality. Like many others over these past few decades we have been losing the jazz legends and greats faster than we could ever replace them. Part of me fears that we will lose jazz altogether, institutionalizing to a point where it has lost its soul and what it stood for. If anything I would hope we could use this passing to remind all of us to listen and pass it along.

Dave was on the edge of not only music and pushing the envelope, but also on racial relations and civil rights. To honor him we need to keep pushing in all forms of music. We have to keep growing and we must stay true to the roots of all music and how it express emotion in a language we are just beginning to understand.

Finally though I would like to send my condolences to his family and friends who are struggling most with this loss today. Any time someone passes we quickly forget the life and people that they left behind. I know that life keeps moving, but we need to remember that death and passing is never easy to deal with and if anything deserves extra compassion and care.

He was on his way to a routine check up when he passed and this should remind all of us to be grateful for our health, life, and love. So if you are reading this please remember to end as many encounters happy and full of love, because life is much to short to hold hate. And as morbid as it sounds we never know when we will have the last conversation with someone. Take it from me you never want to take that love or opportunity for granted.

So over the next week and months while we mourn Dave's passing lets remember to show compassion and love. Pass along Dave's message and spread love and joy as far as you can and do not let anyone's voice go unheard. Push the limits, test the boundaries and do something great. Most of all though share and spread the love and enjoy the company and love we find ourselves in everyday.
